  1. this is called a restricted group- in which you type why you want to be a member. that box is default by the way

to have a restricted group- management- under group settings click membership- Membership Type and Welcome Message (Edit) <- click the edit- sellected restricted membership- click save changes

if you set up a closed group, you wont have any options here. a closed group is always closed and cant be reversed

  2. You have to change your group to a "restricted" one. There you can see the box you're talking about. Here is how you can change your group to a restricted one:

Here’s how to make your group restricted:

    1. Go to your group's homepage.

    2. From the list on the left, click Management. This link only appears if you’re the owner of the group or a moderator with the appropriate privileges.

    3. Under "Group Settings", click "Membership".

    4. Click Edit next to "Membership Type & Welcome Message".

    5. Choose "Restricted" next to "Membership Type".

    6. Click Save Changes.

    Hope this helps.
