When people say "rest in peace"---What other way is there to rest?

I think when they say rest in peace, they mean don't bear any ill-will on the living.

So instead of being restless and angry, they want you to be at peace with everything.

Not all souls rest in peace.  Many are doomed to walk the earth still trying to find their peace.

My interpretation of that is, don't die with any regrets or untold apologies.  Its more advice to the living before they go to the grave.

Unless they mean hopefully you won't go to h**l or become an evil ghost with unfinished business.

Vanilla star, it has nothing to do with the physical self or comfort. It simply means that now the body is interned (buried) you wish the person to leave all the chaotic worldly things and rest in peace. It mostly began as a hope that the spirit would not roam the earth to haunt anyone.
