2. We revere, not worship. Worship is for our Lord only. You can hold someone in high esteem without worshiping them, can you not? That is how we view Mary. We honor her and hold her in high esteem, and ask her through her goodness to intercede for us to her Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

  3. This concept falls under the general subject of Mariology...

  4. appreciated significantly but not worshiped

  5. In the Catholic Church, it means we revere her for her status as Jesus' unblemished Mother; for her unwavering sense of duty carried out with dignity and grace.

  6. Honor her.

  7. It means that they kneel down and pray to her directly, but don't want to admit that this is what the Bible describes as worship; which is reserved for God alone.

  8. Revere her for her place in God's plan...i.e. being the mother of Jesus.

  9. *drink*

Looks like you answered your own question. That is called rhetoric and is not a true question.

Feel free to have your little sectarian fights, just keep the violence to your own kind.

  10. This is what we mean:

    Dictionary def. -

    venerate (v n -r t )

    TRANSITIVE VERB:

    venerated , venerating , venerates

To regard with respect, reverence, or heartfelt deference

    Wikipedia

In Christianity, veneration (Latin veneratio, Greek δουλια dulia), or veneration of saints, is a special act of honoring a saint: a dead person who has been identified as singular in the traditions of the religion, and through them honoring God who made them and in whose image they are made. It is practiced by the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church, and some members of the Anglican Communion. Veneration is often shown outwardly by respectfully bowing or making the sign of the cross before a saint's icon, relics, or statue. These items may also be kissed.

In Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Anglo Catholic theology, veneration is a type of honor distinct from the worship due to God alone. Church theologians have long adopted the terms latria for the sacrificial worship due to God alone, and dulia for the veneration given to saints and icons. Catholic theology also includes the term hyperdulia for the type of veneration specifically paid to Mary, mother of Jesus, in Catholic tradition. This distinction is spelled out in the dogmatic conclusions of the Seventh Ecumenical Council (787), which also decreed that iconoclasm (forbidding icons and their veneration) is a heresy that amounts to a denial of the incarnation of Jesus.

  12. It means they don't want to admit she's in every respect worshipped as a goddess, replacing Diana, Astarte, Aphrodite, Isis and is treated like a co-redeemer all but equal to Jesus because it sets off the protestants.

  14. It's ok - you can say "why do Catholics worship Mary" We hear it all the time and explain over and over and over that veneration is not the same thing as worship.

We honor and respect her for saying yes to God. In St Luke’s Gospel, Elizabeth’s greeting to Mary presents her as the one whose faith makes her the model of all who live according to the beatitudes

Mary's assent to the divine will is motivated only by her love of God.

  15. 1192 Sacred images in our churches and homes are intended to awaken and nourish our faith in the mystery of Christ. Through the icon of Christ and his works of salvation, it is he whom we adore. Through sacred images of the holy Mother of God, of the angels and of the saints, we venerate the persons represented.

  16. 'Hold in high regard' No more than that.

  17. They honor her.

    Why such bigoted hatred?

  18. They either worship her or see her more than what she really is.

  19. A definition of "venerate" is "to regard with respect or reverence." Nowhere in the Bible are we told to revere anyone but God alone. There is nothing wrong with respecting those faithful Christians who have gone before us (see Hebrews chapter 11). There is nothing wrong with honoring Mary as the earthly mother of Jesus. The Bible describes Mary as "highly favored" by God (Luke 1:28). At the same time, there is no instruction in the Bible to revere those whom have gone to Heaven. We are to follow their example, yes, but worship, revere, or venerate, no!

  20. It means they have an appreciation for the role she played in their religion and honor her for it.

She was kinda crucial, after all.

  21. It's a tricky word game to get around a theological no-no. In the highly sexist world of the Roman Catholic church, all the top-level worshippees are male. So women have found a female object to worship in Mary. But that is forbidden by the hierarchy, which wants to make clear that Mary is *not* on the same level as the three males of the Trinity. So they specify "veneration" in place of "worship." Practically speaking, it makes no difference.

  22. Revere.

  23. They worship her. Big no-no!

  24. Here's another more likely definition:

    ven·er·ate (vn-rt)

    tr.v. ven·er·at·ed, ven·er·at·ing, ven·er·ates

To regard with respect, reverence, or heartfelt deference.

  25. To revere, but not to worship. Look up the word "venerable."

  26. She can appear without matter...

    It's not a human thing...

  27. To Shoot, "Ventilate", in the vernacular.

"Venerate" is "Ventilate" pronounced by a person with a Harelip.

(HAH! Thought I was gonna say "Asian", din'cha??? Nah... I have too many Japanese comrades.)

  28. she is worshiped
