Question:

When people say they want Creationism to be taught in schools, what do they mean?

Do they actually want it to be taught as a theory, in science, or do they just want teachers to go "By the way, you don't have to accept evolution, you might want to believe in Creationism". Because I would imagine everyone knows about Creationism without having to be told what it's all about and even if they didn't it wouldn't exactly be a long lesson. "God made everything. That's it, you can all go home." Whereas evolution is quite a complex theory and needs a lot of explanation. So do people just want a sort of disclaimer, so students know that they don't have to take evolution as fact and can also take Creationism into account? Do they want it taught as science or in RE?

P.S. As a disclaimer of my own: I'm not trying to start an argument or saying either one is right or wrong (although I obviously have my own opinion). I genuinely just want to know how people think Creationism should be taught in the classroom.

  1. I think God created us via evolution. o.O

  2. They want it taught as science even though there is no evidence for it, and plenty of evidence against it

  3. I am a Christian, and I DON'T want creationism to be taught in school.  I would rather leave that to the Church and to me.  Let the school teach all scientific theories.  They all have their place, too.

  4. They mean the belief that the universe including humans was created by some sort of being. Creationists claim that its not necessarily religious because it doesn't say that God was the creator. It shouldn't be taught, because there is no scientific proof at all, and it is at best a guess as to how the universe came about.

Also, some people think that the earth is flat, but would you have that taught in pubic school?

  5. I wish they taught it when I was in school.  It would have made for easier tests...

  6. They want creationism to be afforded equal status with evolution, despite the fact that creationism has no evidence to support it. It is just a strategy to get their religion into public life.

  7. Like in a court of law you have 2 sides. In a public school, they sensor out the Creation truth, and only teach the Evolution lie.Let's have 3 different subjects:

    1)Science

    2)Evolution

    3)Creation

  8. It should be taught as a cultural belief.  Because it has no fact, or evidence behind it, how else would it be taught?

  9. I don't care if "creationism" is taught in schools.  I just get tired of the lies perpetrated in the name of science.

Starting with Darwin's original theory, his initial premise was that the cell was the smallest part of a living thing and that the "undesignated" cells could be "reformulated" if the external stimuli were extreme enough.

He was wrong on both counts.  He knew nothing about the internal structure of a living cell!  And there is no such thing as an "undesignated" cell.

Starting with a false premise, he came to a wrong conclusion.  But is this ever taught in the schools?  Of course not!

Furthermore, many of the so-called pieces of evidence have been falsified in the name of science, such as the piltdown man, the java man, lucy, and so many others, that were downright fraudulent!  Is THIS ever taught in our public schools, of COURSE not!

Did you even know that the piltdown man (or was that the java man?  can't remember for sure which), but ONE of them was built up from the tooth of a BOAR - a wild pig!  How is THIS for objective science?

I don't care if they don't teach creationism in schools; I just wish they would quit teaching the secular lies that support evolution!

  10. They want to preach insanity in public schools.

  11. How long are they going to keep Pastafarianism out of public schools?

This is an outrage, I demand all subjects being given the same amount of time:

    A. Science.

    B. Evolution.

    C. Creationism.

    D. Flying Spaghetti Monsterism.

  12. It means they want their kids to be morons too.

  13. This is what we want taught.

  14. Creationism should be taught in schools as science, alongside evolutionary teachings.

Creationism studies would include the formation of the earth and the universe in a biblical timeframe, and the geological effects of the flood, such as flood-plate tectonics and fossil development caused by rapid deposits of sediment during the flood.

  15. God is not science,He is far above that,Religion may be taught at home, but to lie to my kids presenting a theory is something I do not like.Every one likes to say we brainwash our children, well as a child myself once I would be filled with terror to think I am going to evolve into a new creature.

  16. They usually mean they want Intelligent Design, which has been completely discredited, taught in science class as an alternative theory.

  17. It tends to mean that they want only THEIR version of creation taught as fact despite meeting that pesky little need for evidence.

  18. most of them really dont since teachers cant be trusted....

    SEE education...

  19. They want their religious dogma to be regarded as equal, if not superior to, scientific fact.  The whole "teach the controversy" nonsense is an effort to get their foot in the door, followed by efforts to downplay biology, geology, astronomy, and other sciences that defy their 6000 year old Earth in favor of their specific pet superstition.

The Creationists try to disguise it in many ways, such as pretending that Creationism is a scientific theory ("Intelligent Design"), or "teach both sides and let the kids decide" which makes as much sense as teaching heliocentrcism and geocrentricism and asking kids to decide which they like better.

The infamous Wedge Document of the "Discovery Institute" specifically spells out the intentions of the Creationists.  I suggest you look at it, particularly where they talk about "replacing materialistic explanations with 'theistic understanding'" regarding human and universal origins.  Translation:  They want to replace the hard-won and evidence-supported scientific model with their specific literal interpretation of the Genesis story.

The simple fact is, these people want to throw out science in favor of their narrow version of the history of the world...a version that is not borne out by even a scrap of evidence.  They moderate their language a great deal to try to sound vaguely reasonable, but their eventual intention is to cast science as "evil" and "satanic" (many vocal advocates such as Ken Ham, Ben Stein, and Michael Behe have come right out and said this) and make children in public (and private if they can manage it) become indoctrinated into their religion--which they regard as the ultimate truth.

There is only one place Creationism belongs:  In a Comparitive Theology class, set beside its fellow religions.

  20. I'm pretty sure they want to make it sound like a scientific theory, and be taught as such. Which is why they don't call it Creationism in those cases; they call it "The Theory of Intelligent Design". They want teachers to take time that they would normally spend on teaching other things to sit down and say:

"Okay, so Evolution is one theory, but there are other ideas as to how we got here. For example, it is possible there is an intelligent creator, or designer, who created all life. This can be seen through the sheer complexity of life itself."

Etc. etc. Of course, their ultimate goal is to have Evolution booted out of the curriculum entirely, and replace it with Creationism. Then, surely, they'd want the Big Bang Theory removed too, and replaced with the "Theory of the Spoken Universal Photonic Creation" (i.e. "Let there be light!"), etc.

When this day comes, I'm glad I won't be in school anymore (graduating in May).

    -IMP ;) :)

  21. I don't think they give it that much thought, as to which class it would be taught in. They just don't want evolutionary theory taught in school without also teaching about God creating the universe and everything in it.

Is there really anything contradictory with saying that God made stuff and some of that stuff evolves? For that matter, how about like the bumper sticker I saw once: The Big Bang Theory: God Said It, and "BANG!!!" It Happened.
