Question:

When people talk about the realities of life, do their words make it seem harsher than it really is?

I was registering for high school because I went to a different middle school for my 8th grade year. We had a lot of the papers we needed in a folder, and I thought we would also need the social security card. So I put it in there. I also thought we were going to take the folder home with the papers, but apparantly not. So, now it's lost. And the lady gave the folder to someone else, cause she can't find it around her desk. My brother stressed me out about it and thought I was even cutting in the bathroom because he made me cry(he can be such an a*****e when he's stressed). He says that "Nobody gives a d**n, now your credit is ruined and no one's gonna return it to you". I mean, I get the ******* point already so stop talking about that. But it isn't like everyone would use it for their own advantage and do the "wrong" thing. I don't want to keeps my hopes to high, but I don't want to stress soo much about this(as if the family doesn't add their own bullshit).

So would anyone here, if found a social security card, return it to the owner/wherever they found it or keep it to themselves? I just want a good estimate of the odds of what could happen.

  1. you're too young to have credit to get ruined so dont worry about it. you will just need to get a new card sent to you from the SSA. While someone could use it to form a fake identity, it prolly wont happen since you are so young, as no one wants the identity of someone in high school.

  2. Just go apply for a new one and let the SS people know it was lost.

Explain what happened and let them tell you.

If I found one and couldn't figure out where it came from, no address etc.

I would burn it or cut it in little pieces.

but then again, I have found a $10 just out the door on the grass outside of a bank and went back in and gave it to the bank manager "just in case some little kid just lost all the money they had, or some old person.."

I really don't think something evil is going to happen.

Just go to SS office and get it replaced and explain to them what happened.

You can google the SS office for your city and get the address and go there hon.

Don't worry about something you can't change or don't know anything about.

And remember these words of advice.

90% of things we worry about NEVER happen.
