  1. If you mean "When will people accept machinery and computers as permanent or semi-permanent additions to their own bodies?"  then the answer is - "It has already begun to happen."  Think of pacemakers, hearing implants, artificial limbs, plastic joints, computers controlled by brain-waves, etc etc...

    If you mean when will we become like mindless biological-robots due to the constant rot of society, drudgery, and mindless televised drivel dripping in through our staring eyeballs, the answer is somewhere between "never" and "yesterday" depending on your hobbies and circle of friends!  :-)


  2. If you are referring to the concept of transferring consciousness into a non-biological environment, we have a long way to go.

    The last estimate I saw was that if Moore's law continues to hold, it will take us thirty years to develop a computer processor which can match the speed of the human brain.  In fact, we may need a network of super computers all working in parallel to approach the processing power of one brain.

    And, even then, to be able to transfer consciousness may be another hundred years away.
