  1. You will see white-ish smoke. Same color as you would see if you were "smoking the tires" on a car or motorcycle.

It's caused by friction - when the plane lands, the wheels are not turning and they have to very quickly speed up - if you are close enough you can even hear the chirp of the rubber as it gains traction.

  2. I think it's usually grayish-whitish in color (same color as car tire smoke). The reason why they smoke is because the tires aren't moving and when they touch the ground at 100+ mph, they skid in the same way car tires do when the brakes lock up.

  3. Light sage, with a touch of violet.

  4. You see white smoke because the tires are not rotating when they hit the ground, so they do kind of a reverse burnout. They go from zero to somewhere around 150-200 miles an hour in about not many feet. Same thing happens when a dragster does a burnout.

  5. Pretty much white, just like at the drag races.

Black smoke means the landing didn't go quite as planned.

  6. White or Blue

  7. black

  8. If you could see the smoke closely it would have a touch of blue to it, at a distance it will look white.

You will see a little black smoke from the engines when landing or departing.

  9. should be gray smoke.

  10. besides the colour, you should also have noticed that the ammount of smoke has dropped rapidly over the years. This is due to improvements in speeding up the wheels before they touch down. The saving on tyre wear and cost has been staggering.
