is there a 'best' time of day to do so???

Does it make a difference?

Would mid-day be fine, or is there a better time for better results??

  1. You don't say where you are, but the trick is to avoid the seeds and young grass from drying out.  Thin can happen in an hour if its hot and sunny.  Keep it moist every few hours with a fine spray to avoid washing it away.  Covering with a mulch like straw (without weed seeds) or shredded newspaper works well and protects it.

Be careful not to overwater if it gets cool, which can result in mold and fungus growth.

Careful with the fertilizer.  Too much can burn young grass.
