When playing pool, why is it that you win a game and get about 9 points, when you lose, you lose 20 or so?

My rating on pool goes up only a few points when I win, but it goes way down if I lose a game. It is not fair!

IT DEPENDS ON OPPONENT'S RATING...

IF YOU ARE 1500 AND WIN AGAINST 1200, YOU GET ABOUT 10 POINTS

IF YOU ARE 1500 AND LOSE AGAINST 1200, YOU LOSE ABOUT 20 POINTS

Its all due to the level of your opponent. if you are 1500 and beat someone who is 1400, you dont deserve a big gain. but if that 1400 beats you  then they should get more thus you lose more
