  1. ok,  there's two main points to being offsides.

    1) If you are in front of the ball you must have two defenders between you and the goal.

    2) If you are not making a play on the ball then you do not receive a violation.

On that last part,  What I mean is if you stand in the corner of the field the whole game and the ball never comes your way then it IS NOT offsides.  So if you notice that you are offsides don't make any actions that would indicate that you are making an attempt on the ball until you get back onsides.

The whole idea of the offsides rule is to not let you camp out right by the goalie and let someone kick it a half a field's length leaving you one on one with the goalie.  But if you are good enough to juke the defenders and carry the ball up field to where it is one on one, then you deserve the advantage of going solo with the goalie.

  2. You are onside (not offside) when you have two (2) players from the opposite team between yourself and the goal line and its extension to the corner flags. Usually it is the goal keeper and 1 defender.

You can not be offsde on your own half of the field.

  3. The ref will blow the whistle and say "offside"!
