Question:

When playing the lottery, is it best to pick your own numbers or let the computer choose them randomly?

I've always wondered how many people have won the lottery by letting the computer choose their numbers. Is there any way to find this out?

You only ever hear about the 'I played my wedding anniversary' or 'kids’ birthdate'. I suppose I'd just like validation that letting the computer choose isn't the equivalent of hitting an 'automatic lose' button.

Thanks.

  1. it will not make a differnce if you what the computer to pick the numbers or you what to pick the numbers yourself.

  2. It makes no difference at ALL.  Your odds of winning are the exact same no matter what numbers you pick or who picks them.

Whenever I break down and I think I might wan to play the lotto, I remind myself of this...

Assume the lotto game you're playing has 60 numbers and you have to pick five of them.  (I don't know what state you're in and what lotto game you're playing.)

I consider playing the numbers 56-57-58-59-60... the very last five numbers.  And then I think to myself... "Those numbers aren't gonna win!  No WAY will those five numbers come up."

Well, guess what?  They have the exact same chance of any other five numbers that are picked.  They have the same chance, for example, of these numbers coming up: 3-17-23-45-58.  It just "seems" like these numbers are "better" than picking the very last five.

And once I remember this, I don't play.  The lotto is for suckers.  (Especially because they take too much off the top.)

  3. i have heard and read articels saying you have a better chance with the computer..but i guess it can be 50/50..its just a matter of what jumbers come up
