Messages received or placed in the archive are plain text only. If formatted, then an opening or closing asterisk (*) are the only indications.

  1. From my experience, it seems like a Yahoo Group will only preserve formatting if attachments are allowed in the Group.  This is because, for some reason, the setting to allow attachments is combined with the setting to allow HTML, and this formatting is encoded in HTML.

If you're willing to allow attachments in your Group so that this formatting can be preserved, but don't know how to, then sign in to your Group's web site.  Then click on Management on the left-hand side of the page.  Then click on Messages in the Group Settings section (towards the upper-right-hand corner).  Then click the Edit link next to Posting And Archives.  Then select Distribute in the Attachments column.  Don't forget to click the Save Changes button when you're done.
