Question:

When quoting futures, how can traders quote things like JAS and OND and then give 1 price for it?

JAS standing for Jan August Sept. Arn't the prices of all three months different ?

  1. I am not a futures trader, so my answer may be wrong, but given that you have not received any other answer I will give you my guess.

    I do trade options and I know many options orders are what are known as spread (or combo) orders specifying multiple trades to be done in one order for a single price. I believe the same would be true for futures contracts. If that is correct the price of an OND future would be close to the sum of the prices for October, November and December contracts.

    By the way, I am also pretty sure that JAS is short for "July, August, September" not "January, August, September".
