When I read my horses pedigree I understand everything it but one thing (because I am not into the sport of racing) what it means when the papers say a 'best speed index of 69'. What does this mean?

  1. This is an explanation of the Speed Index:

Unless you intend to breed your Quarter Horse with intention to sell the offspring as racehorses, the Speed Index of any of his/her ancestors is irrelevant.  A "best speed index of 69" would mean that the horse that earned it probably was not a very fast racehorse.
