Question:

When replacing pool table felt, do you buff the slate? and how do you attach it under the slate to hold it?

Got a used pool table , DYNAMO , Bar size yesterday for 350 bucks.. Slate.. the felt is still ok, but eventually i'm gonna replace it and I dont want to pay 250 bucks to have someone do it..

  1. You can clean the slate just with a damp cloth.  You shouldn't have to buff it.

    I believe, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, that your table has no backing frame on the slate.  Most larger tables do.  Most bar boxes don't.  If it does, you simple staple the cloth to the backing frame.  If it doesn't, you are going to have to get some 3M Super 77 spray adhesive.

    Just read that.  In particular, scroll down about three pages to the post by Billy Bob.  It's long.  You can't miss it.  He goes into great detail about reclothing a Valley table which is quite similar to the Dynamo.


  2. There is no need to buff the slate, just get a vacuum cleaner and suck up all the chalk that's left behind and then replace the felt, underneath the slate there should be a wooden plank attach to the edge of the slate , the purpose of this is so the felt can be staple to the wood to hold the cloth tight.
