I am looking to install new and better sounding speaker's. But if I do, I would have to cut the wires to get them to fit. Would this mess up my plan to restore the car to original specs? Or is there a place out there I could but a hook up kit so I don't have to cut and splice the wire's. I a running a 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.

  1. You should be able to find a wiring kit that plugs into the original wiring harness and has wire ends at Crutchfield.com

    Here it is http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/I...

  2. well i have a 91 bmw and the sound system wasnt that good the wires were too thin too they couldn't handle the speakers i put in so i had to rewire the whole system i just got some speaker wire and ran it from the wiring harness to the speakers it wasn't that hard and it sounds great now

  3. Just go to an audio place or go to yahoo and look up local dealers in your area.

  4. Technically it wouldn't be factory, and in a car show it may cost you points.  You might be able to get away with it if you can plug in new speakers as you suggest - just follow the wires back, looking for as plug of some sort.  If you find one, then you start the detective work looking for a suitable aftermarket wiring harness.  If not, you may just have to take the hit on points - but if it will also be a daily driver, it may be worth it.
