  1. there should always be at least 1 horse length ahead or behind a hors and about 3-4 feet when passing so the dont get side kicked.

  2. If the horse in front of you can move its tail and it could easily hit the horse behind it then you are to close! also, use commen sense. you should be able to figure it out.

  3. i horse back ride and i know it's one horse appart

  4. Twice the distance

  5. One horse length is the golden rule, but if you have a kicker, 3-4 lengths away.

  6. I think that you will be best off if you let the horses choose line order and distance

  7. Its generally one horse length. More if riding on rough terrain or the horse in front of you is a known kicker (should be wearing a red ribbon in its tail to indicate this)

  8. I personally use the car rule in which you ask yourself: If the horse infront of me was suddenly stopped, how long would it take me to stop without running up their tail and without having to pull up on the side.  It all depends on your speend and how quickly your horse might respond to your aids.  But if you don't know the horse very well, I would say, stick with the classic 1 horse length from nose to tail.
