I disagree. Nadal is better when he is at his top form. Nadal can definitely outrun Federer, as we have witnessed at the Wimbledon 2008, to say the least.

Honestly, Roger is absolutely the best at his top form....and Rafa is absolutely the best at his top form.  

Now, what is it that you're looking for.  Different surfaces???  Clay - Rafa, Grass - Rafa , Hardcourt - Roger slight edge.

I truly dont believe one is better than the other, they are BOTH fabulous players and improve and get better because they play each other.:)

Rafa is clearly better and he has proven it for quite a long time now. Any Fedemono people need to get a grip - I've had mono and it doesn't last that long. R-Fed is 27, back in form, but he just doesn't have the mental toughness that he used to. Rafa is 22 - younger, fitter, stronger, sees the best shots early and is getting better every day. I think Rafa dealt Fed a severe blow in the final of the French, but when Fed lost Wimby too, it seemed to crush something in him. In three attempts, Fed has never won a singles gold medal and it only took Rafa one try. Rafa has had the overall winning record against Fed all along, even when Fed was in "top form." When comparing them at the same age, it looks even worse for Fed - when he was Rafa's age he only had one slam. Rafa has 5 + the gold medal. Oh - and he's hotter too.  ; )

If they are both in their peak, I would probably say Roger, but you have to wait because Rafael is still in his peak, and you have to see what he will do in the next year.

Roger in his prime was unstoppable.

I think during the past 2 to 3 years they both have been in top form and Roger has been the better one.  This year Roger had mononucleosis and it has taken a while for him to recover from that.  This is why Nadal has become the new number 1 player. I believe that Roger is the better player when they are both in top form.

Both are amazing players but I think Rafa is the best when they are both on top form :-).  For a start, Rafa has much more stamina than any player on tour and can outrun and outlast everybody.  Rafa hardly ever makes unforced errors and his serve is a real weapon now :).  Both players were playing at their best in the final of Wimbledon 2008 and Rafa won :D.

if you are talking head-to-head, i will give nadal a slight edge.

but if you are talking playing against all others, federer is clearly the best.

federer has problem with this match-up, it's only about the match-up.

let me put it this way: do you prefer to play like federer or like nadal?

my choice is clear, federer has the most beautiful, balance, graceful tennis form. his power comes from accurate form and timing. so far proven injury-free due to his sound fundamentals. nadal muscles the ball, i guaranteed he will be plague with injuries in his later part of career.

Definitely Roger. I think Nadal is slightly better than Roger on clay but Roger is better on the other surfaces.

Roger Federer in top form does not make unforced errors and can hit amazing winners from any position. He might have to hit few extra winners to get the point against Nadal but he'll do it. What's happening now is that Federer is making errors on his second or third attempt at a winner.

If you watch Nadal's matches, you'll notice that he loses matches when his opponent is on red hot form. This is because the player in top form does not miss his shots and Nadal can retrieve only so much. Some examples are Tsonga in AO 2008, Gonzalez in AO 2007, Djokovic in Cincinnati 08.

The reason why Nadal has a winning head to head record against Federer is that they've met most times on clay where Nadal is better.

when they are both in peak form, nadal is better! at wimbledon 2008, both were in top form and nadal won that as we all saw! roger was lucky nadal wasnt around around in 2003 or 2004!
