  1. It depends on your fitness level and experience.  If you are racing to win, and are in good shape, you should be fine.  Also, if you are doing a light jog in cool weather, also no problem.

If it is hot out, or you are a slow runner, or not in good shape, it wouldn't hurt to bring a small water bottle with you.

  2. yea

  3. you dont need to cary one with you, but if you come to a drinking fountain, take a quick drink

  4. im sure youll live

  5. You dont need water for 4 measly miles...you dont even need water for 10 miles.

  6. I think it is best to concentrate on being well hydrated all the time. Sipping on water throughout the day is the best way to accomplish this.

Stay hydrated throughout the day and have a drink before beginning your run. If you do this there is no need to drink during your 3.5 mile run.

  7. Its okay to run as long you are well hydrated before you run. You'll know that you are well hydrated when your pee is clear. Though its nice to carry a bottle/belt so you can sip as you run.

Here are some nice water bottles:

For shorter (10K and under) I carry a hand held water bottle, and longer runs (training for 1/2 and marathons) I usually use a belt with bottle holder and carry gel/money in the pocket.

It really is a personal preference.
