When running a gas mower with a gas (propane), can it go into the carboratour without exploding, backfire?

I want to feed hydrogen or biogas into a gasoline mower, with a separate oil tank. And I am wondering if feeding that into the carboratour (air intake?) could result in a backfire explosion back into the tank of gas?

Thanks.

  1. EMO

  2. Propane burns hotter than gas.  I think some steel part need to be replaced with stelite or other more durable materials for it to run long term.

  3. No, backfiring is caused by bad timing. Propane vehicles in the '70's sometimes consisted of a regulated supply of  CNG fed directly into the carb. No reason it wouldn't work on a mower.

  4. I have an old  1 horse motor with a special carburetor on that runs off propane . The motor is so old its unreal . I got it from an old farm house i use to rent . I guess the old farmers used them . I guess you would have to get a special carb that is made for such gases .
