It is a 590 Watt Samsung energy saving window A/C model unit. As it gets around 95 to 110 here during the summer, it is always on. So does it really matter if it is set at 75, 70 or 65? It would be on the same amount of time at the same watts right?

  1. In addition to TY guy's response...

Once the temperature inside the room is at the temperature you want, the compressor will stop.  The larger the difference between the room temperature and the outside temperature, the faster the heat is absorbed into the room, therefore, the sooner the compressor will come on again.  So, given the same outside temperature, a room set at 65F will reabsorb outside heat faster than a room set at 70F.  Therefore, the compressor in the room set at 65F will come on more often than the room set at 70F.

  2. Not really

The AC changes how it works depending on the temperature INSIDE (not outside)

So, if you set it to 65 instead of 70, it has to work longer to lower the temp another 5 degrees, so you will spend more.
