Should you think about the pain while running? Also, how does one not think about the pain they are in while running? Will this help if there is no pain?

  1. ok this is a tough one, but i've been a cross country runner for 5 years, so take it from me...

you're going to have the pain, you can't make it go away.  what you need to do is acknowledge that pain.  you need to start your run thinking "ok, before long this is going to start hurting."  you need to acknowledge that the pain is there, but remember that you're going to be fine, it's just your muscles getting tired.

after accepting that it's there, you need to not focus on it.  think about your stride, like how to make it straighter, smoother, longer, etc.  think about how each step you take is one step closer to the finish.  if you're in a race, focus on the person right ahead of you and how determined you are that you're going to catch them and pass them.  or if you're at the front think of how determined you are not to let the person behind you catch you.  the pain will be there, but the trick is to acknowledge it's presence, know that you're going to be ok because it's only running pain, and focus on your running strategy.

a lot of the time you can literally run out of the pain.  you get tired and your muscles start burning, but it stops after a few minutes if you just keep pushing through it.

  2. lol just think and/or focus your attention on something else, like inhaling everytime your left foot hits the ground, or if your in like a public place and theres ppl watching you or are nearby. Smile big at them, it focuses you on smiling instead of the pain...If that doesnt help just flex and un flex the stitch of pain

  3. I would say it depends on the kind of pain. People should not ignore their bodies completely, because pain's the body's way of warning us when something bad is happening or an injury is in the works.

If you have side aches or just sore muscles, it's fine to try to tune that pain out. Music helps tune it out, as does working out a problem or running with a friend and talking with them. If those things are not possible for you, try controlled breathing exercises while running or thinking about a book you've read recently

  4. dude when i start to feel some pain its weird but this is wat i do im into like swat police army things so i remembered when i was little i always wanted to be like them so i pretended i was getting shot at and i have a very good imagination so i could picture the things and when i thought up all of this my legs didn't hurt  but whit chest cramps theres no way to get around thoes but lift up both ur arms  on top of ur head cause wat that is , is ur lungs andr expanding more than usual so it hurts ur rib cage and lifting up ur arms releses some pressure

  5. I wont say im a good runner, but im free to make suggestions right?

umm im 13, ran a mile in 6.3 minutes

    How i did it:

To keep the pain away is already hard enough. Try breathing while at it. Set a goal, achieve it. You want to try to make a small conversation in your head about something not that exciting but can last long.

    for example:

a car- my future car should be a honda accord... should it be in red? orrrr in black? oh, maybe the mustang looks better in black.

then try to picture the conversation

its like a built in entertainment system

    try that for a mile

if it doesnt work, i think Qt 3.14 would be the best bet

  6. I find that I warm up after about 4 miles and then I get into the "zone" where I am relaxedly not thinking about much at all.

I would say run slower and relax or go to the doctor or physical therapist to see why you are in pain while running.

I did pull a quad muscle doing combatives training and tumbling and when I went to run track the other week, it hurt, so I limited my laps and now it doesn't hurt because I did not push too hard.
