Question:

When sending a resume to an e-mail, is it necessary to talk about yourself in the e-mail?

I am going to send an e-mail for a cashier position at a pharmacy. Is it alright for me to talk about myself and sort of let them know what kind of a person i am? Just attaching my e-mail seems a bit to little. But then again the ad only says send e-mail... so i don't want to be too extra.

Would the people looking at my e-mail care at all if i do talk about myself? If so, how should i start off? Wouls a simple "Hi, my name is" be nice?

- Thanks!

  1. Research the company to find their mission statement, sales or goals. Then write a cover letter that talks about how your personal attributes are congruent with the companies core values. Don't put in a lot of personal information just what is relevent to employment.

  2. When applying for a job through e-mail you use the e-mail as your cover page.

Here's a sample you can use:

    Date

    Company

    Street Address

    City, State Zip

    Attn: Hiring Executive

    Re: Job Title

    Dear Hiring Executive:

I was very interested to see your job posting for a Job Title (like cashier) on Job Source (where you found the job posted). I have been seeking just such an opportunity as this, and I think my background and your requirements may be a good match. My resume is enclosed for your review.

As my resume indicates, I possess valuable and applicable skills and knowledge acquired through education and professional experience; a XX degree (if you have one, or take this part out) in XX as well as experience in (this is where you explain some job experiences), just to name a few of my duties.

In addition to my experience, I bring with me certain personal qualities that you may appreciate. They include:

Persistence. I follow the most complex project through to completion, with all details in order, and I do not require direct supervision for success.

Organized. I am very detail-oriented and goal directed; especially when working with groups and teams on projects.

Flexibility. I learn very quickly, so I adapt easily to new working environments, new procedures, new technologies, and new policies.

Problem solving skills. I possess the ability to listen attentively, determine alternatives and implement positive solutions to situations.

I realize, of course that this summary cannot possibly provide all the information you will need for your decision-making, so I would welcome the chance to speak with you personally.

    Sincerely,

    Your Name

Never ever put personal information that isn't relative to the job, so you never say your married or if you have children, and you don't list your hobbies or interests (they shouldn't be on your resume either).  Always speak positively about your self and skills.  You can find other Cover letters on the internet, just Google Cover Letter Samples.  I'm a Recruiter w/over 10 years experience and I do my own business for writing resume, cover letters, and reference pages.  The cover letter is I gave you to use, but you will need to modify it to reflect your skills and what you are applying for.  If you have more questions you can email me.  Good luck!

  3. Don't spend a lot of time discussing yourself in the actual e-mail.  They may not even take the time to read it.  Just state that you are interested in the position, briefly highlight any relevant experience you have, and attach the resume.  When I say "briefly highlight," I mean "I have X years of experience in X fields," and leave it at that.

  4. when the ad requests only a resume, i would attach my CV then I do talk about myself in the email but make it as a cover letter discussing the things that the resume cant necessarily explain as detailed as a cover letter.

  5. Hello

It's not necessary to introduce yourself again as all the details about you will be in the resume. Just give a cover letter simply telling your whole resume in 2 or 3 paragraphs. See if this helps
