Like on the outside I would write Mr. and Mrs. Bob Smith, on the inside envelope, do I write Bob and Jane? Or does that get left blank?

Thanks!

  1. Invites are a Wedding etiquette nightmare these days.  What was once, has changed quite a bit, since society has gone more casual.  However, true etiquette form would be to address the inside of the envelope - hand written (calligraphy if you are talented):

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith (not Bob)

if the kids are invited too then:

    Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith

    Jonathan, Christopher and Joanna

    Hope this helps!

  2. That's how I did it - Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith (formal) on the outside and Bob and Jane on the inside.

  3. On the inside you would put the people's first names "Bob and Jane" or "Bob and Guest" (in the event Bob doesn't have a significant other and you want to allow him to bring someone).

  4. Like another person said, formal on the outside, informal on the inside.  That's where you could write, "Grandma" or Uncle Bob and Aunt Sally.

  5. You write the familiar names of all the invitees on the inner envelope, or the single's name with "and guest," if they are invited to bring a date.

So, if you are inviting your aunt and uncle and their children, your outer envelope might say:

    "Mr. and Mrs. Bob Smith

    500 Maple Street

    Anytown, USA"

And your inner envelope would say:

    "Uncle Bob and Aunt Susan

    Bobby and Suzie"

Your outer envelope to your single girlfriend (who is allowed to bring a date) might say:

    "Ms. Sarah Jones

    150 Oak Lane

    Anytown, USA"

    The inner envelope would say:

    "Sarah and Guest"

  6. I would go with the Bob and Jane on the inner envelope and for those allowed to bring a  guest you can do Bob and Guest
