  1. Perhaps you are disconnecting the wrong wire.  Or maybe the wireless interface in your laptop isn't working.  Are you testing the wireless with the Dell?   I would check that the wireless interface is enabled.

  2. certifications tutorial-

  3. i'd ring linksys for them to walk you through the set up as it is different for each router

  4. For setting up the wireless router, the router should be plugged into the modem using a ethernet cable and you should be plugged into the wireless router also using an ethernet cable.

Run your setup according to the setup.  Then disconnect the ethernet cable from you computer. Wireless should still be working.

I think your problem is hooking up to both the wireless and the modem at the same time using the USB cable.

  5. no,you cant remove the cable the way that you have it set up right now.Since it is directly linked to your router and motem, then that  is the only way it will stay on right now, because when you unplugg it,you unconnect to the modem, which also unconnects the router

  6. Sounds like you have not configured you network adapter to connect to the wireless router.  Simple test is to unsecure the router (turn off WEP or WPA) and make shure SSID broadcast is turned on.  THen see if you can connect with the wireless adapter.   Remember you may need to scan for new networks and then connect.

  7. It doesn't need a computer to be hardwired, where there is a cable present it will automatically be using this connection, after you disconnect the cable you need to connect via the wireless usb adapter, either using the software supplied with it or using the windows wireless zero configuration utility, if you have set up security then you will need to enter these details, you can then configure it to connect autmatically via the wireless adapter.
