  1. no, you don't lose if you miss unless you scratch, hit the cue ball into a pocket.

  2. normaly yes,but different parts of usa have diffrent rules,In most cases house rules preval, I have played numerous rules ,like i said check house before game that way no arguments.

  3. to win a game you must shoot the eight ball into a designated pocket.  If you miss the shot, your opponent gets another turn.  If you make the shot, you win.

  4. If you miss the ball, it's just a foul and your opponent gets ball in hand anywhere on the table.  These are the ways to lose a rack:

    3.8 Losing the Rack

    The shooter loses if he

    (a) fouls when pocketing the eight ball;

    (b) pockets the eight ball before his group is cleared;

    (c) pockets the eight ball in an uncalled pocket; or

    (d) drives the eight ball off the table.

    These do not apply to the break shot. (See 3.3 Break Shot.)

  5. When you are 'On' the eight. You must attempt to at least make contact with the ball. After which either the cue ball or the eight must hit a rail for the shot to be legal. If you fail to hit a ball after hitting the eight, it is ball in hand to the other player. If you pocket the cue ball while attempting to hit the eight, you lose. You also must call the pocket on the eight, if you sink the eight in the wrong pocket, you lose.

  6. When shooting at the eightball you  have to at least make contact with it whether you make it or not. If you fail to hit it, your opponent gets ball in  hand.

  7. If you are shooting the 8 ball and don't hit it but don't scratch your opponet gets a ball in hand.  The only way to lose the game on that shot is if you scratch the cue ball or sink your opponents ball.

  8. the only way you lose is if you make in wrong pocket or make the 8 and scratch on the same shot.
