Question:

When should I apply for college?

I am graduating in 2009 and I would like to attend college in the fall of 2009. When should I apply? I'm scared that I will be too late and classes will be full and I won't be accepted because I heard people talking about that last year. The problem is, I have to wait a couple weeks until school starts to talk to my counselor but I don't want to apply too late!

By the way, it's a community college.

  1. f it's early decision (when you are completely committed to the one school you are applying to and will absolutely not apply to any other schools) then the deadline is usually December (well it was when i applied for college 5 years ago) Most schools don't want other applications (the ones that aren't early decisions i.e. you are applying to many schools) until after the holidays. I sent in my applications around Feb. and March of my senior year and got accepted to all of them and didn't have trouble getting the basic classes that most freshman have. Although, I did not apply to any community college's so it might be different for them. The school that I went to had all the freshman registering for classes at the same time so don't worry about classes being full, usually it goes by senority (upcoming seniors register first, then juniors etc.) anyway so most freshman are stuck with the stinky classes no matter how early they apply.

  2. January 2009 is plenty of time. Check with your school counselor  when you get back to school.

  3. They accept everyone in community colleges.

  4. Don't worry at all.  What you should do is submit your application right now, just to get the application out of the way.  Community Colleges do not have a limited amount of students they accept, the way Universities do.  It doesn't cost you anything to apply.  All you have to do is apply and take the standard test (different name in every state- it's called the ASSET test in AZ) to see what classes you are qualified to take.  Once you have taken the test and received your results you should go talk to your counselor.  Your counselor will not be able to enroll you in any classes until he knows which ones you can take.  Good luck!!

  5. I would apply at the end of 1st semester of my senior year.  That is what I did, and I got accepted.

  6. Look at your community college's website, and look for things like Course Catalog or Important Dates. Somewhere it will say exactly when the deadline is to apply for classes. Usually at community colleges they accept applications up until the start of classes, but it's never to early to start looking.

Some of the classes you want will probably be full. The reason is that community colleges accept everyone, so there are more students then there are class spaces. The more credits you have, the easier it is to get into classes. This has little or nothing to do with how early you apply. So if you can't get into the classes you want, take other classes to build up credits, and hopefully you will be able to take them the next semester or the next year.

  7. It depends on a lot of factors... You shouldn't need to start applying until school starts unless you're going for a really prestigious school or you want early decision.  If you have good grades and test scores and extracurriculars, it won't really matter.  I went to the University of Florida and I remember running my application in the DAY OF the deadline... I wouldn't recommend that, but all I mean is... senior year hasn't even started yet.  You have nothing to worry about.  Just take the 1st semester and perfect your essays and work on your GPA and enjoy your senioritis!  You'll have the rest of your life to stress :)

Oh man, I just saw it's a community college... you have NOTHING to worry about.  You could apply in the middle of the semester and get in.

  8. You should apply a year before you plan on attending the college. For you, you should apply in fall 2008 (Or no later than the next month or too). That way, you can be accepted early enough to sign up for classes, visit, and learn a lot before you actually have to attend.

  9. if it's a community college and you have good grades, then you will most likely get in without any problems.

and this is common sense. ASAP?

  10. as soon as possible...doing this stuff early helps a ton

  11. You'll be fine as long as you apply before the deadline listed on their website, but its probably not before January 1st
