When should I ask for a raise?

I am 14, my parents both own a buisness, my dad has a photo lab, and my mom has a photography buisness.

I get 5$ an hour working for them,

I feel like I am more experienced then when I started, and I also am helping my friends raise enough money to buy a van (we are in a band, its for taking equipment arround and stuff)

should I ask for a raise? Or will they give me one eventually without me asking?

  1. ask @ the six month mark. that's the usual for most businesses.

  2. you should ask

  3. are you actually getting a paycheck and taxes out? If so $5 seems way under the min wage line. If it is under the table type deal then really you can not be very demanding lol. Generally though at 6mths to a year is when raises are given and you will never get one if you sit around and wait for it, you need to ask, especially if it is family. Sadly they are the ones who usually take advantage of your work for less.

I would never consider working for $5, even when I was 14 I always got minimum wage (which at that point was $5.50)

  4. Yes YOUR the one working YOUR the one who should be getting a raise and you should ask for about 6-7 dollars an hour

  5. I think you should talk to your parents and tell them what you are planning to invest on and they would consider it. But imagine if you don't ask than you will never know

  6. They'll never give you a raise unless you ask. Having said that they might start charging for food and lodgings! ;-)

  7. when your boss is in a good mood, ask him

or make him sign a contract
