I bought a new car 3 months ago and I was told by the dealership that I would be getting my license plates through the mail, but its been a while now and I was wondering if i'm suppose to pick it up at the DMV or if i'm suppose to wait even longer for them.

I live in southern california.

  1. Generally, right away. The difference being if you pay in person, or

have it mailed. I would call your local DMV to see. You could probably

go down there with bill of sale, contract, insurance and I.D.  When you

call they will ask you some questions so that they can tell you approx.

how much you will need in money.

  2. It takes awhile to receive your new license plates. It takes on average about 4 months to receive them. Chances are that the dmv didn't receive the paper work for at least a month after you bought your car. Give it at least another month or 2, and if you still haven't received them, then contact the DMV. And yes, they arrive in the mail in a big yellow envelope from prison. :)
