Question:

When should I contact the doctor?

I have gotten 4 positives on pregnancy tests in the last two days. But I haven't missed my period yet, so I might not say pregnant, right? Should I wait to call the doctor about my pregnancy until after I miss my period and I know for sure? When have you officially "missed" your period...one day after it is due?

THANKS

  1. If you got a positive test - you're pregnant.  The accuracy of these tests are most likely to give you a false negative because you don't have enough hcg in your system yet.  But if you get a positive (especially FOUR), you're very, very, very likely completely pregnant.  You should call the doctor now and set an appointment.  They will often not see you until you're further along, but they will typically allow you to come in just for a blood test to 'confirm' the pregnancy if your appointment isn't for several weeks out.

    Congrats!

  2. You've missed your period if you don't get it the day you expect it.  (Which gives some wiggle room of course).

I didn't call my doctor until I was 11 weeks, and didn't get in until I was 13.  Just because I've been pregnant before, and didn't feel that it was necessary to be seen in my first trimester.

  3. You can contact the doctor at any time, but at this point, there's really no need to, as you already know you're pregnant.  Unless you need advice on what to eat or medication or exercise, then just wait a few weeks and go in.  There's really nothing they are going to do for you yet, except maybe to a blood test, if you request it.

Yes, you are officially "late" the day after you were expecting to get your period.
