I'm living with my parents right now, and have been surrounded by cats since birth. In a few months however I am moving into my own apartment. How soon after I move should I get a kitty? I don't know much about taking care of one besides changing it's litter box, feeding it and giving it water and love. How do i learn to clip it's nails? How do i find a cheap vet? When should I get me a kitty to keep me company in my lonely apartment?

  1. Hello, The cat should be about 3 months old,get your litter box and food now before you get your furry friend, cutting nails should be done early in life,So the cat will get use to it, Don;t forget a brush to comb your cat,They love it!!

  2. as soon as u get settled in, they clip nails at the vet and just look up vets on yellowbook.com or ask around

  3. This is an simple decision to make. First you half to decide if you can afford the cat. Also if you wanted a cat from kitten stage or adult hood. There are many cats on the http://www.kijiji.ca/ sites. Some are already fixed and what not. Trimming nails are easy to do just cut the tip of the nail off. You can always ask a vet to show u (or parents). All you really half to do to own a cat is to feed it clean litter box plus water bowl all the time. On the odd ball cat you would half to take care of its illness when it gets ill. The really Easy way to find a cheap vet is to call all the near by vets and ask them all the same question,ex. How much is it to spay a female cat? Then the cheapest one would be the cheaper vet to go to.

  4. First, make sure that your landlord will allow cats in the apartment.  If it is a go, then get your kitten.  You have the basics as far as daily care for a cat, but you also have to spend some time with it, petting, brushing, holding and playing.  Always watch for behaviour changes which may indicate it should see a vet for diagnosis.  Phone several vets and ask them for their rates for basic annual checkups and make sure its shots are kept up to date to avoid kitten illnesses, and annual/biannual rabies shots even for an indoor cat.  I watched my vet clip my cat's claws to learn...just don't clip into the pinkish area that you see when you expose the claw and start clipping while it is young, otherwise it could be a major struggle each time you do it as it gets older.  It takes two of us to clip our cat...one to hold him and the other to clip.  Just remember though, once you have a kitten, and decide to move it could be difficult to find another apartment where it will be accepted by the landlord.

  5. Cats don't require much upkeep. They are rather independent and will usually walk the other way if you call them. They are rather a Tidy Animal so you want have any trouble finding an apartment that will let you keep one. I would talk to people who live in the area to see who would be a good vet to take your cat to. Don't spare too much expense with the cat. Good Luck

  6. I would say when you have a steady job and feed your self and have money left over to buy other things like what it takes to take care of a cat. As far a vet is concerned, try the vet your parents use. Look in the phone book and call around. Generaly you want your cat to keep it's claw. Or if you are going to have your cat inside all it's life (I hope you don't) get it's claws removed. Ipersonallyy don't like the fact of declawing.

  7. Be sure you get an apartment that allows cats. You can get one as soon as you get yourself settled in. To find a vet, try the yellow pages or maybe an online search.
