I've had it for 3 months. When should I get it re-stringed? Where's a good place to get it re stringed and what does the price range from?

  1. Once you start feeling a really tingling sensation in your hand because it's showing it's starting to get weaker. No exact time frame (varies on how often you use it). Costs about $20-$40 at your local tennis/sports shop.

    Hope this helps =)

  2. It depends on how much you play a year.  If you play a lot you should get it strung every two months.

  3. why would you restring your racquet? if you think the string is still feels lively (hit the string with your nail to hear a clear ping sound) then no need for restringing. if you feel the string is very dampened (no ping but low bump sound) then restring immediately. if you play once a week then restring once a year. of course, you need to restring when it's broken. you can string at any local racquet store or tennis club. you need to pay for the new string and the stringing fee. see tennis-warehouse.com to estimate the price.

    hope it helps :)

  4. If you don't break them very often, I've heard that you should get your racquet restrung as many times a year as the amount of times you play in a week. Like if you play, on average, four times a week, then you should get it restrug approximately every 3 months (or four times a year). Usually a local place is the best place to get it restrung, and depending on that particular stringer and type of strings, it's usually 10-25 dollars.

  5. It really depends on how offten you play.

If you play everyday then every two months they should be replaced, but if you only play once or twice a month then replace every six months to a year.

  6. The general rule is this: the amount of times you play per week equals the number of times you should string your racquet per year.  So, if you play 3 times a week, you would restring your racket 3 times a year, or every 4 months.

Of course, it also depends on the strings you use, and how you hit the ball. The best strings (natural gut) feel good for the lifetime of the strings (till they break on their own).  A stiff string like Luxilon ALU, dies pretty quickly (I have to cut them after 2 months, or they'd kill my arm).

You can bring your racquet out to a local tennis shop to get it restrung or you can check craigslist for people who restring racquets as a side job.   The cost should range from 10-30 bucks if you supply your own strings.  I suggest you buy a set online (10-15 bucks gets you a decent synthetic string), since the tennis shops will definitely charge you more.  The "Rolls Royce" of tennis strings is natural gut.  It takes THREE cows (specific part of the intestines)  to make one set of string that costs you about 35 bucks.

Too much information?  If you are a beginner, you'll be fine with the cheap synthetic strings that you can get for 5 bucks online.  Strings are important - they are like tires on your car.  If you want top notch performance, you need the top strings.  I broke my strings every 2-3 weeks, so I ended up buying a $630 stringer, and strung my own racquets.

  7. The term is restrung.

If you are a consistant tournament player, you should string your racket once a month.  If you play 3 times a week, 3 months should be ok.

Clubs should restring rackets.  Sports Authority, well, any sports depot should be able to string it, but  club will probably string the racket at the correct tension.  Sports stores turn them out like a wherehouse and usually aren't to accurate with their tension.

  8. if they break of feel very loose
