I am doing an experiment and I can't find any information. Also I would like to know the proper soil PH for the best results.

  1. Walk into the paddock, most of the heads should be nodding over. Grab the wheat head and turn it the opposite way it nods. If it snaps off that is a good indication. Rub a head of wheat in your hand to separate the seed. Bite one with your back teeth. If it cracks that is also a good indicator. Once you have done this you should still check the moisture with a moisture meter, 12.5% or lower. We use a HE50.

  2. Wheat should be harvested at moisture

content of 12.5 percent for storage or 13.5 percent for immediate sale.  The dryer it gets the more harvest losses you will have.  If you have drying facilities about 15 percent is a good  grain moisture to shoot for.  If you have no way to dry it, you will need to let it dry in the field and take some loss in harvesting or you will have more loss in storage.  For double cropping, farmers harvest as high as 20 to 22 percent to get the crop out as early as possible and dry it.

As far as pH most cereals will do best at a neutral pH (7), but can tolerate acidic soils as low as 5.5 pH.  Lower than that you will need to add lime.

  3. the best time to harvest your wheat plants is around september to october. that's when i harvest my wheat plants, and they always turn out great. Hoped i helped.

    best of luck. ttyl :D

  4. Practically, when the grain is hard and makes a sound when you chew on it.

That should be 13.5% of humidity or less.

The best pH for most of the cereals is between 5.7 and 7.

But you can grow then with others pH's too.

Sandy soils usually have pH's over 7 and they grow wheat perfectly good if some care is taken.

  5. Somewhere in about 90-100 days it should be nearly ready.

  6. When all of plants become yellow, leaf is dried , 50% plants of field become physilogical maturity stage & moisture of grains is less 20%.
