Question:

When should I put my fondant flowers on cupcakes (on buttercream frosting)?

I have an event that I'm making cupcakes for and I made fondant flowers to put on top. I plan on making & frosting the cupcakes the night before, but should I wait until the frosting hardens a little to put the fondant flowers? Or should I put them on right away (even though they might get soft)? I just want to know what the pros usually do for future reference.

  1. You shouldn''t have o worry about the fondant getting to soft. But if you want to wait just to make sure save some icing in a piping bag and add a little spot for "glue" and then attach. Even if you decide to add them as soon as you ice them then use the "glue" method just to make sure they don't come loose.

  2. Put the flowers on before your icing crusts, or they won't stick.  They shouldn't soften from the buttercream...mine never have.

    Here's some I made last week: http://darkmindseye.deviantart.com/art/T...

  3. Put them on as soon as you ice your cupcakes.
