Question:

When should I put up Baby gates.

I'm due twins in November, and I live a two storey house.

I personally want to put up baby gates on the stairs and kitchen etc before the babies come, but my partner says there's no point putting them up before the babies can at least crawl, but won't we be rushed off our feet then?

When should we put them up?

  1. You should get them right away when you can afford them, bcuz they cost a lot. But as far as putting them up if you have pets you should get them used to them right away. Otherwise wait until they crawl, or soon before so you and your spouse can get used to stepping over them and moving them all the time.

  2. Get the gates now.  Put them up when the twins start crawling.  Babies usually start crawling between the age of five months old and about 10 months old.  Good luck!

  3. Your going to be a hand full..................!=)    When they start crawling.....................!

  4. There really is no need to put up a baby gate untill the babies are at least moving on there own, whether its scooching on there arms and tummy or crawling, If you have pets then that would be the only real reason to put them up so early, but otherwise they are just going to get in your way while carring the new little ones around. I would just wait. Congratulations on you Bundles of JOy!!!

  5. You will make your partner very happy when you tell him he was right. ;-)

  6. Put them up when you feel comfortable to put them up..You might decide to put them up a little early just to get used to them being there. I dont know how many times i tripped over my sons gate in the dark because i forgot i put it up lol. GL

  7. Put them up whenever your baby can move, scoot, crawl, by itself. Better to be safe than sorry!

  8. Once the babies start to crawl you'll want to put them up. They literally only take seconds to install so don't feel as though you'll be rushed.

Good luck and congrats on your twins!

  9. You still have plenty of time.

There is no need to put up baby gates until they become mobile.  As others have stated, the babies will be around 6 months old before you'll have to worry about that.

If you put them up in the mean time, they will just get in your way as you try to move about carrying multiple newborns.

I would think in the mean time, there are several other things you need to be getting ready for.  One obvious one is getting a nursary ready, but even then, don't expect to use that the day the babies get home.  You're more likely to have them sleeping in some sort of bassent the first few weeks anyway.  So what you might not have thought about is getting your own bedroom setup for the new arrivals.  That's where we got caught off guard.  We had the nursary all ready, but not our own bedroom.
