When i got my kitten from this lady in my neighborhood, she had ringworm. I didn't know she had til like a week later when it started to show on her ear. I immediately took her to the vet for anti-fungus cream. now it's moved to her other ear and she's starting to get sores in the inside of her ears. For now i put vaseline on her little sores but the outside of her ears are now hairless and black. I got it under control but her ringworm doesn't seem to get better as in white skin and hair. I've spent over 200 bucks on her health since i got her a month ago, so i dont want to spend another 100 for a skin culture if i don't need to. How much longer til her hair grows back? Its been about 3 weeks now, but under control for a week and a half now.

  1. I rescued chinchillas that had it and in about 7-10 days there was hair growth .  You should notice great improvement after 3 weeks, I have only had the chins for 3 weeks now and they are almost brand new:)

  2. If she's still getting lesions, then it isn't under control.  Ringworm spreads by spores that are on the cat's fur.  It's the cat's own immune system that will kick the ringworm - we help it along by killing the spores.  The best way to do this is by bathing the cat in an anti fungal shampoo such as Maleseb or Chlorhexaderm, or using a lyme sulfur dip.  Treat the lesions as they appear with an anti fungal cream.  The hair won't grow back until the fungus is dead on the areas, and that can take a few weeks in a more severe case.  In severe cases, ringworm actually needs an oral anti fungal drug like Sporonox to help the cat get rid of it.

Go back to the vet for some shampoo, or get some lyme sulfur dip from a feed store, and use that to help rid her fur of the spores.

  3. It takes a little while for cat hair to grow back.  I'm more concerned about the sores inside her ears.  Vaseline may not be the best thing to put on them.  I realize you already spent 200$, but it is always better to be safe than sorry - some conditions become very expensive if you don't catch them early.  Good luck!
