When should I start taking Vitex?

I don't know what day of my cycle I am on, its to hard to keep up with, since I have irregular periods? I had my last period about 2 weeks ago, but it only last 1/2 a day?!?! So is it ok for me to go ahead and start taking it or should I take a test first? Can you take it throughout your entire cycle? I have heard you stop on CD 14?! Please help! We have been trying for almost 1 year now! Any comments, success, or disappointment is appreciated! Thanks-MRK

  1. I take FertilAid which has Vitex in it and the directions say that you shouldn't take it if you're pregnant or think you're pregnant because the herbs can be damaging to a developing fetus. Some people say to stop after day 14 because you never really know when the baby implants. So... if I were you I would test to see if I were pregnant or not... if you aren't then you can start taking it asap. You can take it everyday like a prenatal vitamin (even through your period) until you become pregnant. Good luck.

  2. Hi,

You should start Vitex now.  It takes up to 3-4 months to get into your system to help your ovulation.  Vitex should be taken the whole cycle, every day.  It doesn't matter what day you start.  The sooner the better if you are TTC and want it to get into your system as soon as possible.  It will regulate your cycles, and help your body have regular ovulation.

    Good luck!
