When should a kid start goijg places by himself?

when should a child start going places by himself? how far? does it matter in the area you live in?

In these days and times never. Even 16 and 17 get kidnapped. I would never allow my child to go somewhere by themselves. Yes they need some independence but their safety should be the main concern. Walk with them and then have someone walk with them back. Always have a buddy when going places so if one person gets hurt the other can get help.Partner up with your child's friends parents to set up a schedule of responsibility and always have the child to call when they get to where they are going. If a child is in sports or other after school activities a cell phone may be considered.

9,10,11 can go to local stores n older can go anywhere every1 above 15 use local busses !

It depends on where you live and how responsible your child is. Are they mature enough to go by themselves? My daughter is 10 and she still has to be with someone else before she can go to the store a block away. There is always safety in numbers!

It depends what kind of kid your talking about. If the child is mature and intelligent they deserve to be trusted anywhere simply because they would know how to deal with any kind of situation. If the kid is less able and more young,then they should have a limit to where they are travelling especially if they are alone. 14 is a catchy age,this usually represents a young adult whom can sensibly look after themselves. In this case they should be allowed anywhere as long as their parents dont object and it is possibly in a well known safe area and not somewhere empty and known for trouble.

well in NY kids start taking the subway at 7 by themselves to school.

and they're just fine.

so if you prepare them right, 7-9 is good.
