  1. an 8 month old puppy is a 2 month old puppy. it really depends how long you will be away from home. some breeds need lots of attention and don't want to be left alone. if you're in school, summer would be the best time. if you are working or summer or a holiday would be a good time. you'd have plenty of time in the summer with it and care for it. puppies need 247 the first week or so. make sure you get one that is already spayed/neutered. then the puppy won't be as yappy and restless and naughty.

  2. you should get it when you know you are ready for a pup. because somtimes it runs away and you have to catch it

  3. Dogs especially puppies are wonderful but they can be a lot of work. You may want to consider adopting an adult dog from your local shelter or SPCA. Young adult dogs have many things going for them, they are usually already potty trained, and many of them already know some basic commands.

Another thing you could consider doing, is to start by getting to know some of the people with dogs in your neighborhood. You could volunteer to feed and water their dogs, or even walk them. That way you get to hang out with dogs, but don't need to devote too much time to them. You can also consider volunteering at your local SPCA.

Here is a good article to look at if you are considering getting a puppy:

  4. Well we got our puppy around the holiday time.  When we had a lot more time to spend with her.  We got here on December 20th and had two weeks to get her use to the routine.  Dogs are pretty easy, you just have to be consistent and they will pretty much do what ever you want them to do.  I say if/when you get your dog, make sure you have at least a week off; so you can take time to bond with the dog...
