  1. You should start straight away. Most brides begin trying on dresses 10-12 months before getting hitched. The time to actually order the dress should be at LEAST 6 months before the wedding. Best of luck and Happy Marriage!!

  2. at least 6 months before.

  3. Definitely now. The sooner the better because you might be lucky to find "the dress" at some place where you can buy off the rack and be ready to go. Or you might find it at a specialty boutique that takes 6-9 months to get it made and shipped and altered. It is definitely never too early to start looking, you may be surprised to find that what you thought you wanted and what really makes you shine might be two totally different looks.

  4. I would say start now.  It can take months just to find the right dress.  After that the timing of your final fitting is what really matters.

  5. My wedding is June 28, 2009 and I started dress shopping in June  '08. You need time to figure out what looks best, but just a warning not to get emotional and buy too soon.  My mom fell in love with a Maggie Sottero dress on a sale and her emotions and reaction convinced me to buy it. I knew in my gut it was too soon to actually buy, so now I have one dress I am not going to wear and I am still looking for the one.

I have it narrowed down to 2 dresses, one of which I found today and is lucious rich silk.

I have tried on hundreds of dresses - to me it is really fun- and some have looked great and others just plain horrible on me.

Trying on all kinds and styles will make you sure of your decision.  What I have narrowed down to is very diferent than I originally started looking for.

What has really influenced my dress choices are my plans. As my  plans are taking place and decorators, florist, music, venue have been booked, I can vision my day and my dress needs to go with my theme. Some of the best looking dresses on me do not match our theme at all.So that is important to consider. If you buy now and do not really  know what your day will really look like, you may change your mind .

So I kinda disagree with the "order it now mentality". Yes, some dresses are discontinued, but you have time. Beware of a sales associate who pressures you with discounts and stuff...they want you to buy and buy now.

I will be ordering my dress in October. Once I  order, there will be no more looking or trying on. It is too easy for me to change my mind.

PS: I refuse to buy a dress from a boutique that will not allow me to take pictures of me in the dress. Many places do not let you take pics, but I will not spend $1000 or more on a dress that I cannot see myself in .I have all my choices in a file on my PC so I can look back and it has been really helpful.

A couple salons have denied my request to take pics so I contacted the owner and explained myself and they let me take pics. It is quite unfair for them not to let the potential customer , who is spending a lot of money for the most important day ever, not be able to really make an informed decision.

Good luck and I  hope you have as much fun with your dress shopping as I have been having.

  6. I would start soon.  I was lucky and found a dress on my first weekend of looking, but it still takes a while after you order it!  Mine is taking 4 months to arrive after I ordered it, which is pretty typical.

  7. Start now, but then dont put to too much weight or get pregnant, and congrat, hope you have a great life and a happy relationship.

  8. NOW! I thought that i would wait till i got all the rest of the stuff in a row, and well needless to say i have 10 weeks before the wedding and i cant find "THE DRESS" so now girl now! you need to time to think about what you like about the dresses you have tried on. I am not saying that if you put one on and then you cry when you see yourself not to buy it, but remember that happens alot and to more then one dress. Give yourself time to try on tons and then go back and get the one you love, plus you may need to have it taken in or let out or added to. so give yourself tons of time! Godspeed and Congrats!

  9. You can start trying on whenever you want. I think starting sooner is better, that way you can get a better idea of what you want and if you find a dress that you absolutely fall in love with you have time to save for it!

  10. I started my search a year and a half before my wedding. I didn't actually find "the one" until 4 months before. It took me THAT long. And I had a lot of backups if I didn't find "the one." Backups are always good!

  11. some places will need to order dresses in and this can take up to 3 months. I would start looking 6 months before your wedding

  12. I bought my dress about a 3 months ago and my wedding isn't until August of 2009 so i think you can shop for as long as you want but if you find one that is "the one" BUY IT!! You don't know if that style will be discontinued.

  13. Start now.  Mine is the tenth of that month, and I placed the order back in June.  It took me several different places and at least 100+ dresses to find "the one" and be sure... good luck and have fun!
