he turned 3 years old yesterday, and he can only say some of them.

This is how he sings it: A,B,C - L,M,N,O,P- W,X,Y,Z -now I know my ABC's, won't you sing with me next tiiiiiime.

lol, it's cute, but I want an age frame of when your child knew them.

Our neighbors son just turned 5 and he doesn't know them fully yet... but I don't know if that should make me relieved for my son, or worried for the 5 year old neighbor kid lol ~TIA

  1. He is doing so well!! My Master William & Tobias turn 3 on the 15th (yeah!!) and they know how to sign the alphabet, but get confused easily.

Tobias knows how to say it, when he concentrates. William can say A B C, but then gives up, if I don't say it with him.

Master Dominik turns 5 in February and knows his. But like the others, needs to concentrate.

I think all my boys have concentration problems some days, lol!!

Don't stress, because I think he is doing SUPER!!

  2. Depends on the child, but by the time he starts school he should be able to write and identify his name, identify color and shapes, know his ABC's and count to twenty. Sing the ABC's with your son. He'll get it eventually. The neighbours son - don't worry yet. Unlikely to be serious. Some kids take longer than others. But it sounds like your's is doing well. Be proud.

  3. Your son should know his ABCs when he wants to know his ABCs.. If you force a child to read or learn the alphabet or numbers from an early age, it doesn't make them smarter in the long run - it makes them less likely to be inspired by learning. It all just becomes a chore to them rather than continuing to be this amazing, inspiring thing, which learning is to all of us before it starts to be shoved down our throats.

Please check out this link - it's called 'what FOUR year olds should know', but you can absolutely apply it to your three year old.

Bear in mind that the word 'should' is something that should (lol) ring alarm bells - your child SHOULD do something whenever your child SHOULD want to do so. Everyone's different - and by the way, your neighbor's kid is exactly on educational target.. FOR HIM. Don't be worried about him. My cousin couldn't read until he was nearly 8. Now he's 32, married with a beautiful son and is a professor of nanotechnology at Cambridge University. He reads for pleasure now, because nobody ever pushed him into it.

  4. The kids at the daycare I work at, are 16m-5yrs. The one year olds can pretty much almost finish them.

  5. Well that is a very difficult question to answer, the main reason being that not all kids learn everything at the same time. The best advice I can pass over to you is that you can help them by assisting them and helping them learn their ABC’s. What I did was that I bought these educational toys, my kids learn to tell ABC in weeks with those toys. I know this good site where they sell you these kinds of toys. They’re not expensive either.

  6. All kids develop differently. My son turned three last week and he has known his for about 6 months.  It depends  on how much you practice with them too.  He will get them soon enough.  He is probably well developed in other areas above other 3 year olds so developmentally I am sure he is fine.

As for your neighbor's son.... definitely should be worried!  Be proud of your son  :o)

  7. Yeah, 4 years old.

Humans are usually mostly VISUAL learners and combinations of visual and auditory learners.

We only remember 10% of what we hear but hearing does help us to learn.  Speaking also helps us remember - that and opposable thumbs is why we evolved ahead of other species, because we have a voice box and can speak and repetition causes us to remember and think, so speaking caused us to evolve.

there is a rare group called tactile learners that have to touch things to learn.

Most likely seeing the alphabet shapes will speed things along with learning.  You can try the repetition and touching the letters too.

  8. My son knew all his ABC's by 3. Only because we bought him the Fridge Phonics from Leapfrog. They put a song and rhythm with it so it makes it easier for them to learn. They can put the different letter and number magnets in to learn one at a time or push the music button to hear the whole song. You should try it, I bet he'll know the whole song within 2 weeks of having it.

  9. Like everything there is a range.  I have seen kids know them at 2.5 years but that's early.  At 4 kids should really know the song.  Most 4's start identifying some letters, by 5 should be identifying all letters and beginning to know the sounds.  The fridge phonics I have seen work too for 2 year olds.  My sons are all delayed, my middle son will be 3 at the end of Sept.  he did learn his abc's last year at about 28 months.  He is 35 months now and knows a lot of the letters and numbers.  He is way ahead in some areas and way behind in others.  My oldest was 4 when he learned them, he learned them very quickly, he did have to repeat kindergarten though (he has a lot of other issues).  I would be concerned for the neighbor, it sounds a little late.

  10. Umm well, my cousin's son is 7 months old and she is already showing him those videos that help you lear things and giving him toy sthat help with his 123's and ABC'S. I would say you shoudl've started helping him quite a while ago, but no need to pressure him. If he was exposed to those things when he was much younger it would be faster for him to learn now, but no need to pressure him. You don't have to have a baby genius you know?

Like my cousin's son has learned to crawl and climb up the stairs and they're helping him learn how to walke which I find a bit revolting since they want him to be a genius already. uh no one was pressuring me to walk early and I started walking, reading, and talking earlier than most people.

Don't worry about it though things come in time. Your neighbours son will probably be the type of guy who forgets peoples names.

  11. Every child is different but usually by four years old they know it!
