  1. Typically you run up right when the ball is served... you don't want the first ball, being the setter.  So I don't know why you'd stay back row, assuming that's where you are.  You want the pass to set your 6-2.

    Double check with your coach.

  2. As soon as the opposing server contacts the ball it is legal to switch positions. You obviously want to have the second contact, and if you end up having to serve receive pass someone else will need to set the ball.

  3. You are setting from the back row.  When the ball is served you head as fast as you can to setter spot to be able to set the ball.  You do not want the first pass unless it can't be avoided.  The purpose for switching is to have three hitter options in the front row.  If you were setting from the front row, you would only have two options.  I typically have my setter stand right behind the front row passer, or even have both of them pushed up to the net.  Your coach might have you do either depending on how fast you are and how good the passer in front of you is.  I hope this helps!  Good luck!

  4. You switch right when it is served. But i have played volleyball for 4 years and i still don't see the point of switching. It takes your attention off of where the ball is headed and if it was served to a better player or not.
