  1. you can tell how much slop is in the chain by taking the crank pully and turn it back and forth. if there,s alot of slop, its time to change it.

  3. As far as I know, a Chevy Blazer will have a 4.3L Vortec V6, and I believe this engine has a timing chain, not a timing belt. A timing chain is lubricated by engine oil and usually only requires changing when other major engine overhaul is being performed.

    If I am mistaken and it does have a rubber timing belt, usual recommendations are to change timing belts at 50,000 miles. These are a service item and must be changed before they fail. If a timing belt breaks, there is a high probability that the out-of-time valves will hit the pistons as they move to the top of the cylinder, bending the valves and causing you to need a major overhaul of the cylinder heads.
