There is a persimmon tree in our yard that is loaded with fruit. Is there a way of knowing when to pick them?

  1. Fruit is picked when it has attained the proper color and is still firm to the touch. If persimmons are picked before fully colored, the fruit will not ripen evenly, this will make it harder to eat. They continue ripening after being picked.

  2. When they are yellow and soft.  Best way I tell is take a small bite if bitter then not ready yet

  3. In Virginia I would wait until the first frost and they fall from the tree. Be quick because the deer and bear love them too.  RScott
