  1. Traces back to days of old when a persons reputation meant anything, they would swear upon their name that something was done and if it was not then their reputation would be damaged.

  2. Your word is your bond. People tend to believe you when you use this expression. Most understand it to mean that you will go to ANY length in order to do what you promised, because if you don't, your word is no good. In earlier times, people could trust someone when they said they would do something, and there was no need for law enforcement or contracts. As peoples' words were broken, lying ran rampant, and now it's just something to say to try and reassure someone. Whether they believe you or not is another matter, nowadays.

  3. it means he gave you everything and it also mean if he promises you something he will do it .

  4. it's a way of assuring a person beyond all doubt that we mean what we say and promise what we promise

  5. The saying just means Im giving you my word and you are supposed to trust the person enough to believe that they will stick to their word. So in exchange of whatever you're telling them they are giving you their word saying they wont tell.

Hope I was able to helpp. =]

  6. It just means that they give their word that they will not tell anyone else.  It is the same as "I swear", just shortening the amount of words they have to say.
