When someone calls you "Emo" ... what does that mean?

Supposedly this word was around in the 80's when I was a teenager, but if it was I never heard it. A "friend" of mine the other day said I was "sooo emo". I'm guessing I should have been offended by it ... ? Can someone here fill me in?

Emo -- it's short for emotional. By that they mean you're some one who cut's them selves and hate life and every body around them.

It could be you were being weak, crying, upset, too emotional.

Or it could mean you were listening to music labelled as emo.

Or you could have been wearing black, black+white striped clothing.

Sounds like your "friend" doesn't really know what shes talking about and is using the word in the wrong sense if you have no idea what it means.
