i agree with the first answer. it would be an insult. and even if you are no longer friends, returning a gift is really a blow to the giver.

Giving it back when you move away would be an insult.  Why would you do that?  The person gave you the gift because he or she wanted you to have it.  It's not contingent upon your living in the vicinity or even continuing to be friends.
