I was just wondering if this happens? And also, does any simple blood work tell you if you have an STD?

  1. The only way a blood test will tell if you have STD's is if they test for it specifically, and they wont do that unless you request it or you are having symptoms.  They will give you the results of those tests.

The only way they can test you for HIV is the same way or if your blood comes into unprotected contact with an employee.  At that time you will be tested for HiIV, Hepatitis, etc.  Those results will be made known to you, and anyone who was exposed to your unprotected blood.

  2. This is not a standard practice, they would however inform the patient of any STD and treatment options and also notify the CDC (Center for Disease Control).  Yes a simple blood draw can reveal a STD.

  3. when i had acl reconstruction they didnt take any tests

  4. testing for STD's is not common pre-op bloodwork. If you are concerned about having an STD inform your Dr so you can be tested. If they were to find out by chance they you did have one, yes you would be informed so treatment could begin.

  5. they might test for HIV & yes they will let the patient know they have it...yes, blood work can definitely tell if u have an STD...
