Yesterday, my friend's new boyfriend (who I met for the first time) was being extremely pushy about trying to get me to become a sales rep for the travel company he works with.

From the start, I told him to give me the website and if it looked interesting, I would get his phone number from my friend and call him so he can make the comission as the one who referred me to the company.

But he kept dodging the subject of giving me the website. First, he had me listen to a 3 minute recording about the company on his cell phone, then he started calling this guy who "took him under his wing" at the company for me to get more information from.

Finally I snapped a little and said, "Look, I'm not trying to be mean, but I really am not in the mood for talking to some stranger about the company. I just want to read some information. Now tell me, what is the website?"

He said he didn't know the website off the top of his head and the only way for me to get information was for the guy to talk to me and give the details. Then he tried to arrange a date and time for the man to call me.

I felt extremely uncomfortable and awkward and wished that my friend would have spoken up a little and told him to back off.

  1. Sales rep jobs are usually scams.  The way he handled it was way too obvious.  Pyramid scheme is what comes to mind.  Tell your friend that you don't want to be bothered by this clown again.  If she can't deal, don't hang with her anymore.

  2. Sounds like he probably gets paid for getting other people to sign up.  You should have asked him just one question:  does it cost you money to sign up.  If it does, it's a scam.  Hopefully, this guy is just naive, thinking something like that will work.

  3. I feel something is being hidden,

    because you couldn't get an

    answer about the web site

    address.

    People with nothing to

    hide will let you look

    at the web site, and

    information about the

    company without rushing.

    Maybe, your friend didn't

    want to get involved.

Take time to find out more

    about the company.

  4. It sure sounds fishy to me & if he won't give you the information you want then tell him to take a flying leap!
