When someone points out that my shoelaces are untied, is it rude not to tie them immediately?

I was walking home yesterday and knew my shoelaces had become untied, but I only had a block or two to go. However, a passerby pointed at my laces and I said yeah, thanks. He seemed to become miffed because I didn't stop and tie them.

This has happened to me before. The person seems to be become peeved or annoyed because I don't drop everything to tie my shoes. Isn't that my decision?

  1. Yeah, that is a little rude, but you dont have to do it, so dont worry about it.

  2. It's not rude, no.

It IS neurotic, uncooperative, and unnecessarily combative.

  3. what do you do when someone points out your fly is down??

i think the stranger should have tied your shoes.

  4. you are being told your shoe lace is untied because you could trip and hurt yourself.  And if someone goes out of their way to tell you and you ignore them, The look you are seeing is, "Then break your neck you silly fool."   Yes tripping and falling down is your decision.

  5. Yes, absolutely.  Some people don't tie their shoes as a "fashion statement."  You are not obligated to do anything a passerby suggests.  Don't worry about the opinions of strangers, only about the opinions of people you care about and whose advice and counsel you treasure.
